About Me

DSC_0864

My name is Welmoed van Ramshorst (1984) and I have a big passion for food.
I live in Amsterdam, The Netherlands and am currently studying to become a nutritionist.
Alex (my boyfriend) often features as my “guinea pig” for my cooking experiments and I am happy to say that he is still a very willing test subject.

My perfect night consists of a big table and three essential ingredients: food, friends and wine.

My love for food does not stop at eating, but extends to cooking, food- shopping, watching cooking shows and reading all imaginable cooking books or articles related to food. Baking is my other obsession because I wholeheartedly support the idea that “A party without a cake is just a meeting.” (Julia Child).

I am adventurous when it comes to eating different foods and like to try anything at least once.
I am also a very curious cook and love to try new recipes and cook with unknown ingredients. That is exactly why I enjoy traveling so much, because it gives me the opportunity to learn about other cultures, different foods and new flavor combinations. Call me crazy, but a visit to a local (super)market is always one of the highlights of my trip.

As a child I spent many of my family holidays in the Mediterranean which is where my love for Italian, French and Spanish cuisine has begun. I am also really into Asian food lately, which is a direct result of my recent travels to Thailand, Vietnam, The Philippines and Hong Kong.

I consider myself really lucky to have grown up with a mother who is not only a great cook but is also a firm believer in the power of a proper dinner. Dinner time in our house is a time to sit down with the whole family while we enjoy good food and take the time to really talk to each other. There were never any TV- dinners in my house, for which I hated my parents when I was younger and my favorite show was on, but am very happy and grateful now.

I believe that food has the power to bring people together and make them feel connected to each other. I know that cooking tasty and nutritious food does not have to be difficult and that once you get started it will inspire you to use your imagination and gradually become more adventurous. Unfortunately I know too many people who get intimidated and overwhelmed when they have to cook because they think it is too difficult or time-consuming to produce a decent plate of food.

To me “Food is not about impressing people. It’s about making them feel comfortable.” (Ina Garten) and I hope that with this blog I can inspire people to be brave and just try new things. I invite you to join me in my search for exciting and nutritious foods and recipes and would love to hear your thoughts and comments.

Lets start cooking!

Welmoed
